The Red River Army Depot Army Base I was initially created in 1941 with the intention of making an ammunition storage facility. However, on the arrival of the first shipment of the ammunition, World War 2 commenced, and the defense planners had to remodel the purpose of creating the depot. Close proximity to the south ports and the southwestern training regions, fantastic availability of transport and an excellent market for labor were good enough reasons to further expand the depot into tank repair and supply storage facility. The industrial complex in the depot has the facilities to repair tactical vehicles and overhaul combat systems. The depot was considered for closure as per the BRAC (Base Realignment Commission) Act in 2005, however that recommendation was never executed and the depot still stands strong and continues to accomplish the missions assigned to it.

There is no option of on post housing on this base. The community services office maintains a list of available apartments in neighboring communities. They can even provide a list of trusted local realtors. There is a lot of available property in the area for housing. These realtors can provide all sorts of housing options for army personnel and their families. For army personnel serving here, the best option is to start searching for rental or owned accommodation before the posting begins. Thankfully, the neighboring residential colonies offer a lot of options.
