History

The United States Naval Force acquired 100 acres of land that is located in the city of Charleston in South Carolina. The land area was situated near a military and naval base. As time goes by, the land area acquired by the United States Naval Force gradually decreases until it became 40 acres. The remaining land area is suitable to house a medical facility that aims to cater the military and naval troop members that are deployed in South Carolina and other nearby places. The Naval Hospital Charleston Navy Base was formally opened in the year 1902.

Before the start of the World War I, the Naval Hospital Charleston Navy Base continuously underwent various facility upgrades. As a matter of fact, the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BMS) provides new buildings and facility for the medical staffs and patients. During the World War I begun, the Naval Hospital Charleston Navy Base is still under massive upgrade and expansion.
