Located in Miramar, San Diego, California, about 10 miles north of Downtown San Diego, MCAS Miramar Marine Corps Base is the home to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. MCAS Miramar is located in the center where it is surrounded with more than 10 West Coast Navy and Marine Corps installations. Base Services: The base services include MCCS Facilities and a Commissary. There are a number of specialty stores on the base and MCX has a single main exchange. Medical Services: The Branch Medical Clinic on Station caters to the active-duty members. Plus, there is a family practice clinic, along with a Tricare office. History

Miramar has its history rooted back to 1917; the U.S. Army purchased the area to establish Camp Kearny. The base was re-designated after World War II which was occupied by the Navy and Marine Corps during the 1940s. After a 50-year hiatus, on October 1, 1997, Miramar once again became a Marine Corps air station. This event marked the end to a 56-year Marine presence in Orange County. Formerly renowned as the Naval Air Station (NAS) Miramar, this airfield is named as Mitscher Field as an honor to Admiral M.A.

Units: Major units include - Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Marine Aircraft Group,  3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Aircraft Group, Marine Wing Headquarters Squadron 3 , and Marine Air Control Group.
