He was an endeared officer whose death saddened his fellow men in the base who named the site after him. The beginnings of the base can be traced back to 1939 which is the year when the Second World War erupted in Europe. The base played a key role during the Second World War and it also had a significant role to play at the time of the Cold War between the period of 1949 to 1991. The base had been attached to different chief commands and a variety of missions have been carried by the different units who were assigned.
