History

The Camp Dwyer Marine Base is built and developed to serve as a support unit with the Afghanistan Security Forces for the patrolling activities in the Helmand River Valley. The area was prone to terrorist attacks of the Taliban and the other groups stationed in Afghanistan. The Helmand River Valley is often referred as the Hell Man. It is one of the most attacked areas in Afghanistan.

Aside from the patrolling activities, the Camp Dwyer Marine Base also works as a provider of logistical equipment for air, ground, and communication support for the United States and Coalition forces deployed in the area of Afghanistan. The troops in the Camp Dwyer Marine Base also help in combat operations to prevent the drug trafficking activities in Afghanistan. It also plays an important role in the activities to stop child trafficking that is widespread in the country and nearby areas.

The units that were deployed in the Camp Dwyer Marine Base are the Detachment of Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Seven, the 2nd Battalion 8th Marines, the Regimental Combat Team 7, the Company B, Detachment-B of 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, the Naval Mobile Construction Battalion Three, the Regimental Combat Team 1, the Regimental Combat Team 5, the Regimental Combat Team 7, the 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines, the Elements of 2nd Battalion 8th Marines, the Combat Logistics Battalion 8, and the Combat Logistics Battalion 1.

On the other hand, there are different aviation assets that are deployed in the Camp Dwyer Marine Base are the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, the 159th Combat Aviation Brigade, the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade, and the F Company, 1/169th GSAB (an Army Medical Evacuation Company)

The units are primarily assigned to help and support the Afghanistan Security Forces. The units are patrolling in the Helmand River Valley to avoid the attacks of the terrorist groups.
