History

In the late 1960s, the United States Coast Guard decided that the federal service deserves to own a stand- alone aviation training base. The United States Coast Guard looked for a location where a stand- alone aviation training base can strategically be located. A 232- acre land area became the site that is most suitable for the stand- alone aviation training base that is being planned by the United States Coast Guard.

Units

The United States Coast Guard National Strike Force’s Gulf Strike Team is a specially trained unit that was created in the year 1973. The United States Coast Guard National Strike Force’s Gulf Strike Team is located in the Coast Guard Aviation Training Center. Primarily, the United States Coast Guard National Strike Force’s Gulf Strike Team is responsible for responding in natural or man- made populations. In addition, the United States Coast Guard National Strike Force’s Gulf Strike Team is also tasked to suppress hazard incidents such as the released of hazardous materials, vessel salvage operations, oil discharge, and, weapons of mass destruction. The United States Coast Guard National Strike Force’s Gulf Strike Team is deployed in the different areas in the world. However, their main area of responsibility is the United States Coast Guard’s 7th District, 5th District, and the southern portion of the 8th District. Aside from that, the United States Coast Guard National Strike Force’s Gulf Strike Team members were also deployed in Caribbean, Central America, and in South America.
